Frequently asked questions about bookings
Do I need to book an area within Parramatta Park?
Bookings are required for events or functions where any of the following apply:
- to
use a specific area, erect a marquee/structure or have amusements or caterers;
- for organised activities including sports and commercial activities, advertised community events, filming, photography, wedding ceremonies
and photography; and
- all functions where over 35 people are expected to attend.

What areas of Parramatta Park can I book?
Picnic shelters, playing fields, picnic grounds and the Rumsey Rose Garden may be booked, subject to the Trust’s Terms and Conditions.
How do I book an area within Parramatta Park?
Use the online booking form which can be found at http://www.ppt.nsw.gov.au/book-an-area/@@booking-form. If your function involves 100 people or more, a Trust officer may request a meeting to discuss your needs and the requirements set down by the Trust. You will need to consider the following aspects: waste disposal, toilets, parking, signage and other details specific to your booking.
Can I bring a jumping castle or other amusement into Parramatta Park?
In general jumping castles will not be approved for private bookings because of the requirement for WHS compliance. If you wish to have a jumping castle or other amusement at your function you will need to comply with the Parramatta Park Trust Amusement Devices Compliance Guide. This will involve provision of a safety officer and you will need to have a someone qualified in first aid onsite for the duration of the function . What if I want to hold an Event ?
An event is a gathering that is not a small private function. It is usually hosted by an organisation and may or may not involve the wider community. Depending on the size and type of activity planned an event management plan may be required.
Event organisers are required to finalise all matters relating to their booking 10 working days before the event date including payment. Event organisers must not publicise their event before the the event has been approved by the park.
Event organisers are required to demonstrate to the park how they will manage parking and traffic flows resulting from their event including detailing how they will communicate parking to their attendees. Event organisers should note that the park may require the engagement of RMS qualified traffic controllers to assist with traffic management and parking for their event.
Event organisers will be required to post a bond which will be used to defray any cost to park arising from the event, cost incurred above the bond will be recovered by invoice.
What if I want to conduct my personal training business in Parramatta Park?
Personal trainers who want to use Parramatta Park for their training business are required to obtain a permit for this. They must hold an appropriate qualification from Fitness Australia and be insured to carry out Personal Training before Parramatta Park will issue a permit. Click here for more information.
How much does it cost to hire an area within Parramatta Park?
Booking fees vary, depending on type of activity and area booked. The Trust will advise of the fees payable for your particular booking on receipt of Booking Application Form, or alternatively refer to attached Fee Schedule.
Special rates apply for major events, filming, photo shoots, wedding ceremonies and wedding photography, schools, commercial activities, promotions and sporting events.
Under no circumstances will Parramatta Park incur costs as a consequence of any event or activity. This is the responsibility of event organisers.
A bond must be paid for all bookings where more than 200 people are expected to attend. In general for private bookings where less than 200 people are expected to attend a bond may not be charged but the person making the booking is responsible for ensuring that the area is left clean and no rubbish is left on site. Where a bond is charged if all the conditions of the booking are met, and the area is left clean and tidy and no damage has been sustained, the bond will be refunded within two weeks from the date of the booking.
How can I pay?
Payments can made in the following ways:
· By telephone for BankCard, MasterCard or Visa
· By mail for cheques or money orders
· EFTPOS
Merchant Interchange fees-
From 1 July 2012 is a requirement for government agencies to recover merchant fees on credit card purchases. The rates are:
• Visa and Mastercard: .04%
What about refunds?
For general casual hire, any request for a refund of the booking fee must be made in writing to the Director, Parramatta Park. Conditions apply for all cancellations and wet weather refunds.
Can I erect a sign in Parramatta Park?
Banners and messages can only be erected in Parramatta Park with the prior written approval of the Parramatta Park Trust. The hirer of the Park is responsible for erecting and removing all signs. Signs may not be attached to any tree or nailed up in any way.
Can I advertise my event being held in Parramatta Park?
All advertising for events being held in Parramatta Park must be pre-approved by Parramatta Park Trust.
Where can people park vehicles within Parramatta Park?
Parramatta Park operates a RESTRICTED PARKING SCHEME. Parking is only allowed in designated car parks and parking bays. Signs marked with 1P, 2P or 3P indicate the number of hours that you are allowed to park in that bay. Parking is NOT PERMITTED outside marked areas. Please note that Parking Officers are on duty at all times and you may receive a Penalty Infringement Notice if you do not comply with the Restricted Parking Scheme.
Events of 100 participants or more may require designated parking marshals and a traffic management plan, depending on the nature of the event.
There are designated parking areas on the eastern side of the Park and two large commercial car parks located near the Macquarie Street entrance and off O’Connell Street
