Old Government House
Old Government House is the oldest remaining public building in Australia.
Every Governor from Phillip to Fitzroy spent some time in residence at
Parramatta.
This structure was enlarged and improved in 1815 and 1816 by Governor Macquarie to its present form. It was used as a Vice-Regal residence until 1855.
After
1855, the house was used for various purposes, including a boarding
house and for the King's School junior boarders, until an Act of
Parliament placed it under the control of the National Trust of
Australia (NSW) in March 1967.
In 1995, the building was restored by the National Trust as a Vice-Regal residence.
