George St Gatehouse

leaf.jpgThis gatehouse is situated on O'Connell Street at the former George Street entrance to Government House. It was erected by the Park Trust in 1885 to the design of Gordon McKinnon, a Parramatta architect. It replaced the gateway and small stone lodge built in 1820 by Governor Macquarie. A sum of £590 was required to construct the building which is built in the style of an English Tudor manor house.

The building was extensively restored in 1980.
