Governor’s Dairy Tour
Take the Curator's tour of this rare surviving work-a-day cottage, the earliest surviving workers’ cottage in Australia. It was built in about 1795 by ex-convict smuggler turned cattleman George Salter who was lucky not be be hung along with the rest of the gang. It was later acquired and extended by Governor Macquarie who also purchased the Salter land grant as part of a consolidation of land around Government House Parramatta to form the Parramatta Domain, now Parramatta Park.
